Gold Tuna Jamsil: Authentic Tuna Spot Approved by Japanese Tourists

We recently had the pleasure of welcoming tourists from Japan to Goldtuna Bangi-dong, located right near Jamsil.

This is a story about how our guests from the "home of tuna" were amazed by our 15-course tuna omakase (chef's choice course) and the famous "Somaek Auntie" Korean cocktail performance.

Lately, Goldtuna has seen a significant increase in international visitors.

Among them, tourists from Japan have grown noticeably.

Since they come from a country with a deep appreciation for tuna, we feel both honored and a little extra careful in our service.

Today, we’d like to share the experience of our latest Japanese guests.

Impressing Tuna Connoisseurs from Japan

Japan is a nation that truly understands tuna.

With a deep-rooted sushi culture, they treat tuna as a premium delicacy.

That’s why we feel a slight sense of healthy tension when guests from Japan visit our restaurant in Seoul.

Serving someone who is eating tuna for the first time is different from serving an expert.

The more the guest knows, the more honest the food must be. The color, defrosting state, thickness, and texture are all on display without any filter.

However, a delightful transformation usually happens.

When the main tuna platter arrives, their expressions change first.

They take photos, look at each other, and let out a collective "Wow!"

The quiet and reserved demeanor of our Japanese guests briefly vanishes.

In that moment, they are simply travelers enjoying an incredible meal.

The Difference Between Japanese and Korean Tuna Courses

Last year, I went on a concept trip to Tokyo.

During that trip, I noticed something interesting.

It was actually quite difficult to find a tuna specialty restaurant that centers the entire meal around a lavish, multi-course structure like we do in Korea.

In Japan, the focus is often on the perfection of a single piece.

In a Korean tuna course, we focus on the "flow" of the entire meal.

At Goldtuna Bangi-dong, we put a lot of thought into this flow. We start with tuna porridge to warm the stomach, followed by salads and fish balls to awaken the appetite. Grilled mushrooms provide aroma, and the main sashimi sets the core experience.

It continues through sushi, special tuna services, monkfish liver (ankimo), grills, fried dishes, maki, udon, and finally ice cream.

It’s not just a large quantity of food.

It is a carefully designed sequence to help guests eat comfortably, laugh, and converse freely.

Why Japanese Guests Are Amazed

The reason our Japanese guests are surprised isn't just because of the portion sizes.

Of course, the abundance is the first thing they notice.

There’s often a look of "Is it really okay to serve this much tuna?"

But as time passes, their reaction shifts.

They start by taking photos of the food. Soon, they are taking photos of each other.

Finally, they want to take photos with our staff.

I love this transformation.

It’s the moment food opens hearts and the atmosphere brings people closer.

When we say Goldtuna is a "Human Restaurant," it's these scenes we are talking about.

Delicious food stays on the palate.

But good memories stay in the heart.

That is why we want Goldtuna Bangi-dong to be remembered long after the meal is over.

The "Somaek Auntie" and the Korean Cocktail Performance

Goldtuna Bangi-dong features another iconic scene:

The "Somaek Auntie's" Korean cocktail performance.

Even our quiet Japanese guests quickly pull out their phones to record.

The video starts.

Laughter erupts.

Finger hearts appear, and they take photos together.

From that moment, the energy in the restaurant shifts.

It’s no longer just a quiet Japanese-style dining room.

It becomes a small festival during their trip to Seoul.

I truly cherish that scene.

Somaek (Soju + Beer) is familiar to Koreans.

But for international guests, it’s a full-on performance.

It’s more than just mixing drinks.

It’s about speed, rhythm, facial expressions, and the guest's reactions coming together.

That’s why I call it the "Korean Cocktail."

A Memorable Meal During Your Jamsil Trip

Jamsil is a wonderful area to visit while in Seoul.

It is home to Lotte World Tower and Lotte World Mall.

Seokchon Lake is nearby, and Olympic Park is just a short distance away.

When traveling, a great meal is essential.

Where you eat can define your memories of the day.

We hope Goldtuna Bangi-dong becomes that special choice for you.

Whether it’s a meal with Japanese tourists, hosting international guests,

a Jamsil family gathering, a Bangi-dong corporate dinner, or a meal after exploring Lotte World Tower and Seokchon Lake.

We want Goldtuna to be the place you remember.

Though we are a tuna specialty restaurant, we strive to be more than just a place that serves fish.

We want to be the place where you dine with the people who matter most.
