Gold Tuna: Famous Somaek Imo Visited by Japanese YouTubers
It was around 11:00 PM.
Goldtuna Bangi-dong was wrapping up its operations for the day. The kitchen had started cleaning up, and the staff were preparing to head home.
Just then, a visitor from Japan entered our restaurant.
He was a YouTube creator who had traveled all the way to see our famous "Somaek Imo" (the manager famous for her viral Somaek—a cocktail of Korean soju and beer—performance) and to film our premium tuna omakase course.
Though it was past the time to prepare a full meal, it was impossible to turn away a guest who had come from so far.
A Late-Night Visit from a Japanese YouTuber
It was too late to provide a standard multi-course meal.
The kitchen was already in cleanup mode, and we weren't in a position to prepare a fresh tuna course.
After hearing his story, we told him:
"We cannot serve food now, but we will offer you a complimentary drink. Please feel free to use it for your filming."
We didn't sell him any food.
Instead, we prepared a simple drink and helped him capture the real-life presence of Somaek Imo that he had seen in videos.
It wasn't a long filming session.
However, we didn't want someone who traveled all the way to Bangi-dong, Seoul, after seeing our videos in Japan to leave with nothing.
Traveling for the Tuna Omakase and Somaek Performance
Recently, Goldtuna Bangi-dong has seen an influx of international guests visiting after watching our videos online.
They come from various countries and discover Goldtuna through different platforms.
This Japanese guest was a bit different from our typical customers who come for the tuna course.
He visited specifically to film the manager (Somaek Imo) and the atmosphere of Goldtuna Bangi-dong that he had seen in digital content.
While we were happy to see him, we also felt a greater sense of responsibility.
We cooperated with the filming as much as possible to ensure the actual restaurant matched the experience he had seen in the videos.
A Meaningful Moment Over a Single Drink
All we provided that day was a single drink and a short filming opportunity.
Yet, the guest expressed his gratitude many times.
It was a tiring hour for our staff after a full day of work, but seeing the guest's joy made that fatigue fade away.
In business, you encounter scenes that cannot be explained by revenue alone.
Though it wasn't a grand service, it was a moment where we could provide exactly what a traveler from afar needed.
These moments make us reflect on the value of each day at the restaurant.
A Promise to Share Seoul's Tuna Culture in Japan
The guest promised to edit and introduce the footage once he returned to Japan.
We don't know yet what the final content will look like or which channel it will be on.
However, there is now a bridge between our tuna house in Bangi-dong, Seoul, and Japanese viewers.
We hope the scenes filmed with Somaek Imo at Goldtuna Bangi-dong turn out beautifully.
Notice Regarding Closing Hours
This post is not meant to suggest that we accept guests after closing time.
Goldtuna Bangi-dong operates strictly within fixed business hours, and it is difficult to provide full service or meals after we close.
This was a very special circumstance involving a guest who traveled from Japan specifically for a project.
We shared this story as a record of a brief encounter handled within a scope that did not interfere with our operations.
A Record by the "Tuna Uncle"
Thank you for visiting Goldtuna Bangi-dong all the way from Japan.
We regret that we could not serve you our full tuna omakase course.
Nevertheless, we were happy to share a drink, a short filming session, and our welcoming spirit.
I hope the spirit of Somaek Imo and Goldtuna is captured well in your video.
We will remember the effort you made to find us.
Encounters like these turn an ordinary day at the restaurant into a lasting memory.
