In Charge of a Company Dinner? 5 Tips for a Fail-Proof Reservation

When you're the designated organizer for a company dinner (hoesik) or a group gathering, the first thing you do is search for a restaurant. I’ve been in that position many times myself.

However, when it comes to the actual booking, there are factors more critical than just finding a "famous" restaurant.

You need to consider if the budget matches the number of attendees, if everyone can sit together at one table, if there are dietary restrictions, and whether someone has to spend the whole time grilling meat or managing the service.

Especially for corporate dinners involving executives or important clients, it is vital to proactively minimize any potential discomfort during the meal rather than just relying on a famous brand name.

Choosing a venue for a company dinner is less about finding a "tasty" place and more about ensuring the conditions allow everyone to finish their meal without inconvenience.

1. Calculate the 'Final Total' Rather Than Just the Price Per Person

When checking the budget for a hoesik, many people only calculate the price of the food. However, the final bill usually includes alcohol and additional orders. If you plan to bring your own wine or spirits, you must also check the corkage fees.

It’s also wise to decide on the payment method (such as a corporate card) and necessary tax documentation before making the reservation.

At a premium tuna restaurant like Goldtuna, where courses are divided into several levels, you don't always need to pick the most expensive one. It’s more practical to choose a course based on the attendees and the specific purpose of the gathering.

What matters most isn't the price per person on the menu, but the expected total amount at the end of the night.

2. Focus on 'How' People Sit, Not Just the Total Count

Being able to "fit 10 people" and having 10 people "sit together" are two very different things.

For a corporate event, you need to verify:

Can everyone sit at the same table? Do we need to split into multiple tables? Is a private room or an independent space required?

If executives are attending or business matters need to be discussed, privacy and separation from other tables are crucial.

Goldtuna’s Bangi and Sinsa branches offer different seating configurations. Since availability varies by date and group size, you should check seating arrangements even before deciding on the menu.

3. Verify Dietary Restrictions and "No-Raw" Preferences

One of the hardest parts of choosing a menu is the diverse tastes of the group. Even if most people love raw fish (sashimi), if even one person doesn't eat raw food, you might have to reconsider the venue. Any allergies or religious dietary restrictions must be confirmed in advance.

Dinner at Goldtuna is not just about serving constant rounds of tuna sashimi.

Beyond tuna and sushi, our 15-course omakase (chef's choice) includes grilled dishes, fried foods, cream shrimp, tteok-galbi (grilled short rib patties), udon, and more.

If a guest prefers not to eat raw tuna, please let us know during the reservation. Where possible, we can substitute certain items with cooked tuna steak or other hot dishes.

Please note that substitutions for allergies or specific ingredient restrictions vary by situation, so please check with us when booking.

4. Will the Organizer Have to "Work" Throughout the Meal?

There’s a common scene at Korean BBQ (K-BBQ) dinners.

Someone is busy grilling, someone is watching the grill, and the junior staff is busy placing more orders. The organizer often ends up managing the flow of the meal long after the booking is done.

When picking a venue, you should look beyond the food and consider who has to do the work at the table.

Goldtuna's 15-course meal provides tuna, sushi, grilled items, fried dishes, and more, all prepared and served by the chef.

There is no need to grill meat or time a hot pot at the table.

For company dinners where people of different ranks sit together, this service structure is a crucial factor in choosing a restaurant.

5. Consider the Nature of the Meeting, Not Just Distance

The closest restaurant to the office isn't always the best. You need to check if it's walkable, near a subway station, and what the parking or valet situation is like for those driving. If you plan to move to a second location after dinner, you should check the local options as well.

There is one more thing:

What kind of gathering is this?

Even within the same company, a casual team dinner and a meal with executives require different environments.

Goldtuna Bangi Branch (near Jamsil) is a favorite for large group dinners and social gatherings. It’s also famous for the 'Somaek Imo' service, which adds a lively performance to the meal.

The Sinsa Branch (near Gangnam) is often chosen for business meals, small-scale meetings, and those seeking a more private setting.

Therefore, instead of asking which branch is "better," it's about selecting the branch based on the attendees and the purpose of the event.

The First Task for a Corporate Dinner Organizer

Before looking for a "good" place, define the parameters of the hoesik. Once the budget, attendees, seating, dietary restrictions, and location are set, the list of candidates will naturally narrow down.

When calling to book, instead of simply asking "Can I book for 10 people?", it's much more effective to share the budget, preferences, and desired seating style. This helps the restaurant provide the best guidance.

The true role of an organizer isn't just finding a famous spot, but ensuring everything is prepared so that once the meal starts, the organizer can relax and enjoy too.

※ Goldtuna has two locations: Bangi and Sinsa.

Bangi Branch (송파점/방이점) is a popular choice for large corporate gatherings and social reunions. It features seating for large groups and private rooms. You can also experience a fun atmosphere with our signature 'Somaek Imo' performance.

Sinsa Branch (신사점/강남점) is perfect for executive meals, business meetings, or any occasion where quiet conversation is prioritized. It operates several private rooms for a VIP experience.

Both branches maintain the same high standards for tuna quality, course menus, and service. You can choose the branch that best fits your group size, preferred location, and the nature of your event.
